Thanks for pointing to the external project.

However, it doesn’t seem to fully address the original request. The repository you linked currently targets Jackson 2, while we are working with Jackson 3. Because of that, it’s unfortunately not a drop-in solution for our use case.

My original suggestion was about potential native support for TOON within Jackson itself, rather than relying on a separate library that may not track the current major version.

Could you clarify whether support via external modules is the intended approach going forward, even for Jackson 3?

there are no plans - you can contact @prb about his lib - you can even fork and get it to work with jackson 3 yourself

Due to growing number of requests for AI features, together with frameworks like Spring AI making it easier for Java developers, the interest in this format may grow over time and having support in a widely used (and trusted) project like Jackson could eventually be valuable to the entire Java community. For now, though, I understand that external modules are the recommended path.

Question really is whether TOON is being used, or planned to be used -- I know there was brief hype about it, but hard to see if anything really came out of it.

Paul's PoC could serve as basis, but what I want to avoid is another backend to maintain but without users.
So "it MAY become important" is not enough.

I do realize there is sometimes chicken-and-egg problem but in this case I think it should be possible observe signs of actual usage,not just everyone talking.
