Best way to get a recent version of Element?

I have a similar problem to other users (eg #682), in that when using an old version of Element (0.46.6), patch cables aren't saved when I add a plugin like Audio Router. The suggested solution is to update to a newer version on GitHub but the build instructions don't seem to be there any more. Could some kind soul let me know the best/simplest way to get a more recent version?
