The new Debian-based boot2docker is not going to replace the existing boot2docker for 1.8. 😉 |
@tianon Correct. The reason why I used legacy is because it's already used on GitHub boot2docker/boot2docker |
@tianon Any other name you are looking for? |
Will update video soon on this. |
Right, the "legacy" name is correct (from boot2docker/boot2docker#1013), but that PR is not going to merge for 1.8 (so for 1.8, there is no "boot2docker legacy" yet), and the new thing will just be "boot2docker". |
Please, please do not make any specific references to boot2docker-debian. We're still pretty up the air about what the OS will look like for next release, what the migration strategy will be, etc. so I wouldn't want to commit to something and then disappoint or confuse users later when it turns out not to be true. |
@tianon @nathanleclaire I just need a temporary name; pretty indifferent on what we choose. Anything you guys want? |
Mmm, I don't know if we need to worry about updating this website for this release. Since TCL is not changing, this website is largely still pretty consistent. Maybe a note to say, "The easiest way to get started using Docker on your Mac or Windows computer is the Docker Toolbox", but this PR I think has a lot of risk of introducing confusion. |
What I'm trying to say is that we shouldn't mention the new thing at all -- all that's being deprecated/changed for 1.8 is that b2d-cli is replaced by Machine, and the installers by Toolbox. |
@tianon Thanks. I'll remove instances of b2d debian / bring back the original |
👍 |
What do you guys think? |
LGTM |

Sorry, this repository is long-since deprecated in favor of Docker Toolbox (whose usage is now also discouraged in favor of Docker for Windows and Docker for Mac). |
