1.28.0 / v1.26.13 - 'Esc' key continuously fails to exit subgraphs

Pressing the Escape key to exit subgraphs always fails at some point.

After some arbitrary amount of time of doing something/anything it just randomly stops working and until the page is refreshed.

No insight of the cause. No errors.

This is a known area of instability in the frontend. The Escape key for exiting subgraphs is now handled by a configurable keybinding system, which prioritizes closing dialogs over exiting subgraphs—so if any dialog is open, Escape will close it first, and only exit the subgraph if no dialogs are open (meaning you may need to press Escape twice in some cases) [PR #4818][PR #4914].

There are also known bugs where subgraph state can become desynchronized or event listeners may not clean up properly, leading to the Escape key randomly stopping until you refresh the page. These issues often don’t produce console errors or logs and can be triggered by extended use or certain subgraph actions [example issue].

If you notice the Escape key stops working, check if any dialogs are open and try pressing Escape again. If that doesn’t help, a page refresh is currently the only reliable workaround. There’s no evidence of a permanent fix for this in 1.28.0 yet, but the new keybinding system and recent subgraph improvements are still being refined [PR #5004].
