Translation switching in ComfyUI's frontend loads all locale files (including locales/zh/nodeDefs.json) dynamically when you change the language setting. If switching doesn't work, common causes are missing or malformed locale files, or the UI not refreshing properly. There are known issues where translations (especially for nodes and widgets) don't update in real time and require a page refresh to take effect—this is especially true for Vue-based nodes and widgets, which may not reactively update on language switch without a reload [source].

Other limitations: only built-in nodes are localized via nodeDefs.json; custom nodes are not included and won't be translated when switching languages [source]. If the translation switch fails completely, check the browser console for errors—missing or invalid JSON files, or issues with dynamic import, will be logged there [source].

Workarounds: after switching the language, refresh the page to ensure all UI elements update. Make sure all locale files (main.json, nodeDefs.json, commands.json, settings.json) exist and are valid for the target language. If you see errors in the browser console, those details will help pinpoint the problem.

It's not just an individual difference; it turns out that all plugins with built-in Chinese translation files cannot translate Chinese.
Reverting to an earlier version resolves the translation issue.
