Upgraded the application from Rails 7.2 to Rails 8.0.

Key changes include:

  • Updating core Rails gems and their dependencies.
  • Enabling Rails 8 defaults while maintaining backward compatibility for ActiveRecord serialization by setting the default coder to YAML.
  • Addressing Faraday 2.x integration issues with Searchkick by adding a compatibility shim for missing error constants.
  • Including required Active Storage migrations for modern Rails versions.
  • Adding standard Rails 8 executable scripts.

The upgrade was verified in a sandboxed environment by confirming the application boots and all core model and controller tests pass.
