📐 FIRE Calculations

Standard FIRE Number

FIRE Number = Annual Expenses / Withdrawal Rate

Example: $48,000 / 0.04 = $1,200,000

Coast FIRE Number

Coast Number = FIRE Number / (1 + Real Return)^Years

Barista FIRE Number

Barista Number = (Annual Expenses - Part-Time Income) / Withdrawal Rate

🔗 Data Storage & Sharing

Local Storage

Your calculator inputs are automatically saved in your browser's local storage for convenience:

  • Persists across sessions - Your values are remembered when you return
  • Never leaves your device - All data stays in your browser
  • URL takes precedence - Opening a link with parameters overrides saved values
  • Easy to clear - Use the Reset button to clear both URL and saved data

URL State

All calculator inputs can also be stored in the URL. This means:

  • ✅ Bookmark your calculations
  • ✅ Share links with specific values (saved data is NOT shared in links)
  • ✅ Browser back/forward works
  • ✅ URL parameters override saved values

Example URL:

/standard?age=30&retire=55&savings=100000&contrib=24000&expenses=48000

What's Stored?

The app stores only:

  1. Calculator inputs (ages, income, savings, etc.) - in localStorage
  2. Theme preference (light/dark mode) - in localStorage
  3. Sidebar state (open/closed) - in localStorage

No tracking, no analytics, no cookies, no external storage.
