I'm worried about the massive commit history right, shouldn't there be just one or two commits and not 20+? The oldest one for this PR is from December 2016, yet that doesn't seem right since that was part of what was landed in master just last week.

Yeah I noticed that too, seems to have come from the merge. Do you usually do rebase? Also, I had issues pushing to origin because I enabled 2-factor auth.
