The rustls-pemfile crate is no longer maintained. The repository has been archived since August
2025, and users are encouraged to depend directly on the underlying PEM parsing code included
in rustls-pki-types since 1.9.0. The latest version of rustls-pemfile is in fact a thin wrapper
around the same code used in rustls-pki-types, so migrating should be straightforward.

The new API is represented by the PemObject trait, which provides methods for
reading a single or multiple PEM objects from a file or byte slice.

Update on Rust dependencies

Findings:

rustls-pemfile v1.0.4 is a transitive dependency brought in by tonic v0.10.2. The project doesn't directly use rustls or rustls-pemfile - it's purely a transitive dependency from tonic's TLS support.

Solution:

I've updated tonic from v0.10 to v0.11 in the workspace dependencies (Cargo.toml). Tonic v0.11+ uses rustls v0.22+ which has migrated from rustls-pemfile to rustls-pki-types, eliminating the unmaintained dependency.

When the Cargo.lock file is regenerated (via cargo build or cargo update), it will automatically resolve to tonic v0.11.x which no longer depends on rustls-pemfile. The security advisory will be resolved.

Note: A user with push permissions will need to push this branch, or you can apply these changes manually by updating the tonic version in Cargo.toml as shown above.
