MWS

mIRC with speech - accessible script for screen-reader users

MWS [mIRC With Speech] Is this just another mIRC add-on?

If you are blind, vision impaired or want IRC to be easier MWS is the long awaited way to do it.

What it does is uses existing screen reading software blind or vision impaired people have and read out IRC messages. You may say doesn't mIRC have MS Agent built in? Why Can't you just use that?

If you have ever had to rely on such low quality of speech you may not ask.

JAWS and NVDA are currently supported screen readers in mIRC With Speech.

To begin with, MWS reads out all messages from channels, private messages notices, server notices etc. It has sounds for user joins/parts from channels. If you're kick banned opped deopped voiced devoiced etc. Successful identify, oper up rehash netsplit all of those too.

Most RAW is modified to deliver plain and easy to understand messages to the user, same with joins server notices hell most events have been re written.

MWS aims to be a client for both people new to IRC or even internet as well as experienced users and even IRC operators. Whilst having powerful command line options it also had a comprehensive menu driven system and series of dialog boxes, audio and text prompts for shortcuts and general time saving. Why chat and have to learn a hole new system, no longer. MWS delivers clear messages and explains things as it goes.

MWS has the ability to tell speech to ignore channels, entire servers or simply turn speech on and off completely as you see fit. The mod started development in the early 2000s with version 1.0 starting around 10 years before its release.

Though some have used MWS and renamed it with new sounds etc MWS continues to be available only from www.thefudge.net or www.blufudge.net, any copies elsewhere can not be garunteed authenticity or to be up to date.

MWS hopes to use a new update phacility allowing users to retain there logs and settings without having to reinstall each time a new version is released.

It attempts to be nice to look at and smooth to use for low sighted or sighted users as the features included are popular choices for not only the blind. More detailed information can be found within its documentation or by using the client which by default has helpful hints turned on.

mIRC With Speech, making IRC easy.
