This would actually be an issue with node-oauth then, right?

Sorry, you're right. Looking at node-oauth, it doesn't seem to have been maintained for a while. I'll create an updated fork and then submit a pull request to move this over to it.

Was just rereading the spec, and came across this line, in section 3.1:

 The authorization server MUST ignore unrecognized request parameters.

So, technically, Dropbox's implementation is violating the spec, and shouldn't reject the request due to the unnecessary type parameter.
