linux4microchip-2026.04 Release
This is the PolarFire SoC and PIC64GX 2026.04 Linux4Microchip Yocto Project BSP release.
This release includes an update to Scarthgap 5.0.15, updates to Linux, U-Boot, and Device Tree Overlays. Additionally, users are now required to change the root password on first login.
A new DISTRO_FEATURE–based AMP boot selection has also been added (see the AMP documentation).
Pre-built images for the Icicle Kit Reference Design
Pre-built images of this release targeted at the 2026.04 Icicle Kit Reference Design are available from this release's assets:
- eMMC/SD card Linux images:
- QSPI Flash Linux images:
- The core-image-minimal-mtdutils-mpfs-icicle-kit-nand.nand.mtdimg image can be flashed to an external Winbond W25N01GV flash memory
- The core-image-minimal-mtdutils-mpfs-icicle-kit-nor.nor.mtdimg image can flashed to an external Micron MT25QL256 flash memory

This release has been tested to work on the Icicle Kit, from eMMC, SD card, an external Winbond W25N01GV QSPI NAND flash and an external Micron MT25QL256 NOR flash memory using HSS 2026.04.1 and the Icicle Kit Reference Design tag v2026.04

A Software Bill of Materials (SBOM), including a detailed list of all software components and their dependencies used in this release, is included as part of the release assets.
Important
PIC64GX ONLY:
The PIC64GX Curiosity Kit assets in this release include improvements to SD card performance, as well as enhanced stability and compatibility across multiple SD card models. In addition, the PIC64GX HSS includes fixes related to SD card voltage selection.
As a result, this PIC64GX release is not backward compatible with previous versions. When using the Linux4Microchip v2026.04 release, please update the PIC64GX HSS to v2026.04 or later.
