As per https://webassets.mongodb.com/_com_assets/collateral/MongoDB_Architecture_Guide.pdf and https://www.mongodb.com/blog/post/performance-best-practices-sharding there are three types of sharding. - hashed, range and zoned. Edited to mention the same in docs
