What are you trying to accomplish?
This PR removes some unnecessary circumvention of Rails security features.
Risk Assessment
This change is for the PVC lookbook only, not any components.
What approach did you choose and why?
I'm seeing if we can simply remove these circumventions before trying to re-implement them more securely.
