Summary of Changes

Hello @facetosea, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request introduces targeted code optimizations primarily focused on improving pointer handling and enforcing preconditions within catalog-related functions. The changes aim to enhance code robustness by ensuring pointers are in an expected state before use, thereby preventing potential issues related to uninitialized or improperly managed memory references.

Highlights

  • Pointer Initialization: The pTableMeta pointer is now explicitly set to NULL in smlModifyDBSchemas before being passed to catalogGetSTableMeta, ensuring a clean and predictable state.
  • Precondition Enforcement: A new check has been added to ctgReadTbMetaFromCache to assert that *pTableMeta is NULL upon entry. If it's not, an error is logged and TSDB_CODE_INVALID_PARA is returned, enforcing a critical precondition for the function's operation.

Code Review

This pull request introduces a stricter contract for functions that return allocated memory via pointer-to-pointer arguments, requiring the pointer to be NULL on entry. This is a good defensive programming practice to prevent potential memory leaks. The change in clientSml.c correctly adapts a call site to this new contract, and the change in ctgCache.c enforces it. I've provided one suggestion for a minor optimization in ctgCache.c to remove a redundant line. Please ensure all other call sites for catalogGetSTableMeta and similar functions have been updated to meet this new requirement.
